Popularizing Population Receptive Field Modeling in Neuroimaging

The brain holds the key to who we are, our thoughts, memories, and perception of the world around us. Modeling the underlying mechanisms is critical to understand the brain. Population receptive field (pRF) models capture how neurons process information. The applications extend from vision into other sensory domains, clinical manifestations and cognitive functions, including numerical cognition and memory. Moreover, pRF models generalize across measurement modalities and species. The pRF modeling software that served the community for a decade is outdated, leading to fragmentation and reproducibility problems. Here, we will create a unified, well-validated software package with educational tools. Our team unites experts in pRF modeling development and applications. Many members of the international community have pledged to support the new software package. Therefore, the team is well placed to once again unite the international community, embrace open-science standards and sustain the software long-term to support innovations throughout psychology and neuroscience.
