E{Z}-kriging: Exploring the World of Ordinary Kriging
E{Z}-kriging: Exploring the World of Ordinary Kriging
Description
E{Z}-kriging is educational software that makes it easier for students without a mathematical background to explore the world of kriging. It is interactive, self-explanatory, and easy to use (hence the name, to be pronounced as 'Easy-kriging'). Last but not least: it is available for free. By dragging points and sliding sliders, students will learn features like:
-
the distance effect (a.k.a. Tobler's First Law of Geography);
-
the screening effect illustrating that kriging is a non-convex interpolator;
-
the declustering effect;
-
the effect of aggregation (a.k.a. 'upscaling');
-
the effect of the variogram model and its parameters (nugget, sill and range);
-
the effect of scaling the variogram;
-
the effect of data values and configuration;
-
how kriging can be turned into a nearest neighbor interpolator or a local mean interpolator.
