Seeing the Difference: Visualizing Textual Variation

Bring together international experts from diverse backgrounds to advance the study of textual variation through innovative visualisations and collation tool development.

The aim of the workshop is to address the challenges of visualising textual variation across multiple genres, languages, and historical periods. Participants will develop standardised vocabularies, visualisation design principles, and interoperable methods to facilitate the sharing of research results. The workshop combines theoretical discussion and practical solutions, with activities such as taxonomy development, lightning talks, and design sprints. The sustainability of the workshop's outcomes is ensured by the establishment of a dedicated international Working Group on visualising textual variation.

Topics

• Developing a shared vocabulary of textual variation
• Reviewing existing software and visualisations
• Exploring new ways to visualise textual differences
• Agreeing on guidelines for sharing research findings
• Establishing a Working Group on visualising textual variation
