This project investigates how generative AI tools can be effectively adopted in research software engineering (RSEng) practice. We take a practice-first approach: applying AI-assisted coding across RSEng tasks, then distilling findings into actionable guidelines, impact assessments, and recommendations for GenAI coding education. The goal is to build evidence-based understanding of where AI tools genuinely accelerate RSE work and where they don't.
